I was really hoping that Ganassi would go back to #40 with Jamie leaving. Oh well. It sounds like they probably will for Jamie's Daytona 500 car. And now they've arguably had more success with the #1 than they did with the #40. (The #40 has 5 wins and the #1 has 4, but the #1 has a Daytona 500 and a Brickyard 400 in the same year, while the #40 has no crown jewel wins with Ganassi.)

I also just realized that McMurray's wins in the #1 were all under the Earnhardt-Ganassi name (and his last win was in the last restrictor plate race for a team with Earnhardt in the name).

The #1 isn't a Ganassi number, but then again neither is the #40. #40 was inherited from SABCO in 2001, while #1 was inherited from Earnhardt in 2009 (as EGR) and in 2014 (as CGR.)

The #1 isn't a Ganassi number, but then again neither is the #40. #40 was inherited from SABCO in 2001, while #1 was inherited from Earnhardt in 2009 (as EGR) and in 2014 (as CGR.) I guess the only full-time number that originated with Ganassi was the #41 (plus the #39, #30, and #04 part-time), although they were all inspired by the #40. The #42, #40, and #01 were used by Sabco before 2000, and the #46 was used only by Sabco. Ganassi also used the #09 at Sonoma 2003 for Scott Pruett, in partnership with James Finch. Also, the #42 was probably used by Sabco due to Kyle (and Lee) Petty's history with it, and the #46 likely came from a team Stacy Compton drove a couple of races for in 1996 (with First Union).

That DiBenedetto scheme looks alright. I prefer the 2011-2017 number font the team used, though.
