I have to admit that up until Jay Robinson participated in trucks in 2014, I used to see him as a joke. I started watching motorsports in 1998 and paying real close attention in 2000 (when I was 9). By 2002-2003 and again some afterwards Jay Robinson would use Steve Grissom for his primary #49 Ford in what was then the Busch Series, to use endless past champions provisionals. I would tune into Speed on a Friday afternoon to see 49 cars entered for 43 spots at Richmond or Chicagoland and knowing that #49 car would putt-putt into the show.
By the late part of the 00s at least Jay cut the past champions use and started putting both his cars (#28 with Kenny Wallace and #4 Derrike Cope) into the guaranteed top 30 section of owners points and started inching from the very tail end of the field.
When they entered trucks I thought that they would really struggle off the bat. However, drivers like Timmy Hill, Reed Sorenson, Ross Chastain, and Wendell Chavous helped to elevate Premium to a team capable of top 20s several times a year and rarely DNQs truck races.
So seeing them go from trucks is sort of sad. But it really seems Premium is interested in sticking to Cup and perhaps making his team more financially worthwhile in case he ever chooses to leave the sport. Premium is an example of a team that always races winthin their means. Even if that means sacrificing speed or taking advantage of certain rules - or charters.

I have respect for Robinson as a guy who's stuck around for a long time now in the sport. He's done it all on a shoestring budget, and sometimes those owners can't be as choosy with who they put in their cars. Sure, the 49 wasn't getting the results it could with a different driver, but at least it was getting in the field every week. He had to establish himself as an owner first. If they're indeed gone for good from the trucks, I'd like to see them run 2 full-time Cup cars next year and a 3rd part-time car at the big races. Hopefully, Chastain can run all 36 races in one car, and that car can get some sponsorship and continue to improve in performance.

Burton's had a decent year in 2018. If you expand his stats over a full season, he'd be 6th in full-season points with 3 poles, 0 wins, 10 top 5s, 20 top 10s, 250 laps led, an average start of 8.3, an average finish of 6.6 and 0 DNFs.

Good. He deserves this. He's very talented. Can't wait to see what he can do. Yep. It's been quite funny to see how much faster he's been in his first few starts compared to Coughlin's "performance".
