In the bigger picture, is RPM having this much financial trouble? They have no backup car this weekend, they auctioned off their Daytona 500 car...those things don't look very good for the team's future. Plus the #43 has dropped to 29th among the 30 teams that are at least somewhat competitive, just barely ahead of the #13. According to the team CEO, the team lost Smithfield so late last year that they were unable to attract major sponsorships due to 2018 budgets already being set and had anticipated a tough year this year. Whether things improve for next year is yet to be seen.

I remember saying someone saying that Richard Petty was mad that the car was ruined, even when they finished 2nd. I think we now know why.

He hasn't finished better than 23rd in the last 12 races, and he has 0 lead lap finishes in that time period, which also includes 5 DNFs.

It really does seem like their performance is way off from last year or even the beginning of this year (remember his good runs at Bristol and Texas?) and I thought Smithfield leaving had a lot to do with that but it is concerning that they've wrecked so many cars. Sadly I don't see this team being around much longer.

Sadly I don't see this team being around much longer. Last year, in his 3 non-plate races in the #43 (filling in for an injured Almirola), Bubba scored 2 finishes better than 20th. During this entire year, in 27 non-plate races, he only has 4 such finishes (including Bristol and Texas which you mentioned, where an unusually high number of good cars were involved in crashes that made it easier for the remaining drivers to score a good finish). Truly, his only solid top-20 performance of the season came in the Coca-Cola 600 where he finished 16th.

Top eight in qualifying are the four SHR cars and four Hendrick cars, in that order. I can already tell this is going to be one of those races where 99% of it is single file.

With the exception of Trevor Bayne, the entire qualifying lineup follows team lines very closely. I don't recall seeing anything quite like this before, even at the plate tracks. 1-4: SHR 5-8: Hendrick 9-16: mixture of Gibbs/FRR and Roush/FRM (except Bayne) 17: RPM 18-20: Penske 21-26: RCR/JTG/LFR plus Bayne 27-40: Ganassi and all remaining teams

Obaika's first Cup attempt ends in a DNQ. Consider me shocked.
What's the odds they purchase a charter for next year? StarCom did during the off-season...

The only charter for sale (I believe) is the Furniture Row charter, and they don't have enough money for that. It would more likely go to the Gaunt Brothers or Jay Robinson.

Unless there's some kind of a swap...say, for example, JTG buys Furniture Row's charter (because it's worth more in bonus money) and then sells one of their own. We also don't know what will become of the #23 charter.

I'm very happy for Aric, he's deserving of this and it's been a long time coming. Yesterday was probably the 5th time this year he could've won, and he finally did.
