Post your picks for one or both of these contests here. New participants are welcome to join at any time! --- Best of the Rest Contest --- - Pick one driver who is not among the 16 playoff drivers. - Earn points based on this driver's finishing position ranked only among non-playoff drivers, using the old Latford point system (175 points for 1st down to 100 points for 21st and below, or if you miss a race). --- Overachiever of the Race Contest --- - Owner Standings: www.jayski.com/stats/2018/pdfs/33mar2018owners.pdf- Your goal is to pick a driver (chartered teams only) who you think will finish well above his team's current position in the standings. - Receive points based on that team's owner point position prior to the race minus their finishing position. You cannot pick the same team in two consecutive races. Current Standings:

Question: now that the #96 has passed the #51 in owner points, will the #51 be scored from 37th place or from 36th place? What I mean by that is, say the #51 car finished 30th. Would that be worth 7 points (37-30) or 6 points (36-30)?

That really shows how bad the #51 is, when they drop below a part-time team even with Cole Custer occasionally getting them a decent finish. To answer your question, I will continue to score the #51 as if it's 36th, since the contest is only open to charter teams. At least to me, that seems to be the best way to do it. I'm open to comments though (regarding next year's contest) if anyone wants to share a different opinion.

I'm open to comments though (regarding next year's contest) if anyone wants to share a different opinion. That sounds fine. The only thing I'd say is you might want to make sure it's consistent. What I mean by that is, if you're only ranking the 36 chartered teams, then only account for the 36 chartered teams in the finishing order. So if the #51 was 37th in points (but 36th in chartered points), they couldn't lose any points by picking them, even if they finished 40th, because they'd be 36th out of the chartered teams in the race. It doesn't matter to me either way you do it (whether or not you count the non-chartered teams), but it may be best to be consistent to keep it to just chartered teams or all teams, if that makes sense.

I see what you're saying and I do think that makes more sense. So, I'm going to amend my earlier post and state that each team's owner point position will be used as it is, even if a team ranks below any non-chartered teams. That probably keeps things simplest and most fair.

Ok. Sounds good. Thanks for the clarification. I doubt this issue will come up much, if ever, because most likely there will only be 36 teams competing even semi-full-time next year.

The race already started, but if I had somehow been able to make picks anyway (without factoring in how the race is going), I would choose the driver 17th in points (#31 Ryan Newman) for BOTR and maybe the last-place charter team in points (the #51) for Overachiever.
