Now, here's a quick look at my plans for next season:
-- NASCAR Twin Contests 2019 --
The overall name of these contests, which are "twins" since two contests are ongoing at any given time, is a throwback to the old Twin 125s, which used to be the name of the Daytona 500 qualifying races.
The popular Overachiever of the Race contest will continue exactly as it was this year, with a year-long championship and three 12-race championships within the regular season, in order to crown more champions and to invite new people to join throughout the year while still giving them a chance to win.
Alongside the Overachiever of the Race contest, there will be four separate and distinct contests throughout the season:
"Making History" (Races 1-2, 13, 24-26)
In this brand new and very unique contest that will be held for 6 of the most historic tracks on the schedule, participants will attempt to pick a car number that will finish near the position that the same car number finished in that race 50 years ago (25 years ago for Indianapolis). Participants will score the difference (absolute value) between that car's finishing position and the finishing position of the same car number in the historical race. The tracks included are Daytona, Atlanta, Charlotte, Bristol, Darlington, and Indianapolis. Lowest score wins.
"Halfway There" (Races 3-12)
In this 10-race contest, participants will attempt to pick a driver who will earn 30 points in a race (which is half of the points earned by a driver who wins both stages and the race, hence the name of the contest) and score the difference (absolute value) between that driver's points and 30. This way, the focus will be on drivers who generally finish between about 5th and 15th, who are often overlooked in my other contests. Lowest score wins.
"Nearby Numbers" (Races 14-23)
In this 10-race contest, participants will attempt to pick a driver who will finish near their car number and will score the difference (absolute value) between that driver's points and his car number. Lowest score wins.
"Best of the Rest" (Races 27-36)
This contest will continue exactly as it was this year. Participants will pick one non-playoff driver and points will be awarded based on the old Latford point system (highest-finishing non-playoff driver earns 175 points, down to 100 for the final few drivers). Highest score wins.
