This thread is for talking about NASCAR-related books and magazines.
Growing up, my brother and I had a lot of NASCAR-related books (most of which we still have).
Some of the ones we read the most include:
NASCAR Chronicle (through 2004) / The Complete History of NASCAR (through 2009) / NASCAR: The Complete History (through 2017).
By Greg Fielden and the Auto Editors of Consumer Guide.
These were different editions of the same book. We misplaced the 2004 version after a few years (the cover had fallen off by that time), so we got the 2009 version a year or two later. We still have the 2009 version, but it's tucked away in a closet. I don't think I really noticed Greg Fielden's name until we got the 2017 version, which was last week.
Stock Car Racing Chronicle: The 1990's.
By Al Pearce and Ben Blake, with photos by Nigel Kinrade (and David Chobat for most of the early 90's).
For each year, they had a summary of the year, and then a photo and brief season summary for each of the top 30 teams, plus a few others. This was where I learned about most of the 1990's owners whose teams closed before 2004.
Sporting News NASCAR Record & Fact Book: 2004, 2006, and 2007 editions.
This had sections with year-by-year driver stats and owner stats, race results by year, and lists of races at each active track in the top 3 series, and a section with more detailed year-by-year stats for every driver with 50+ wins.
Sports Illustrated: Full Throttle: 2004 Nascar Preview - From Daytona to Darlington (or another Sports Illustrated NASCAR season review for 2003).
This and NASCAR Heat were where I first learned about most NASCAR drivers from the early 2000's. This also had an article about Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt, which may have been where I first learned a lot about them (including Earnhardt's Wrangler sponsorship).
NASCAR Legends.
By Ben White, with photos by Nigel Kinrade.
This was where I first heard of most NASCAR drivers from before the 90's (except the ones who were included in NASCAR Thunder 2003). The way they selected drivers made me think Neil Castles was more famous than he probably was.
The Drivers of NASCAR (2004, 2005, and 2006 editions).
By Ben White, with photos by Nigel Kinrade.
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series: From Desert Dust to Superspeedways.
By John Close, with photos by Nigel Kinrade.
This was where I first learned about the history of the Truck Series, including the halftime breaks and many of the early owners.
Magazines:
NASCAR Illustrated.
Subscribed from late 2004 through the end of 2007, and again in the early 2010's. Before we subscribed, we got the March 2004 issue with a preview of the new paint schemes, and later 1-2 other issues (including the one for Texas).
NASCAR Scene.
Subscribed from late 2004 to late 2007, with a gap in late 2005 until the 2006 Daytona 500. Our first issue was from the fall race at Talladega in 2004.
Sporting News NASCAR season preview for 2005.
This was the first place where I read year-by-year driver stats, but they only went back to the late 90's. It also included a list of a few drivers who were in their mid-late 40's and might be retiring soon. We got this after we had to throw out our February 2005 NASCAR Illustrated, but we ended up using this one way more than we would have read the one it replaced.
The Official NASCAR 2009 Preview and Press Guide.
I remember looking a lot at the owner standings. This may have been where I first heard of Landon Cassill. It's also one of the few NASCAR books we've misplaced since 2004.
