Have there any NASCAR Cup races that have proposed (this can include tracks) or were planned to run but never did.

The spring Talladega race in 1970 was originally going to be held at a planned track in New Jersey (it was going to be a clone of Michigan and Texas World), but the track was never built, partly because some of the locals didn't want a track near them and partly because of the owner having financial problems and eventually going bankrupt. Nascarman made a blog about it on Racing-Reference, and I'll try to find a link to it soon. (I've also made sure it was uploaded to the Wayback Machine in case the original ever gets deleted now that the blogs have been discontinued.) Edit: Here's the Wayback Machine version of the article (the track was going to be called Eastern International Speedway and would've been in Southampton Township, New Jersey): web.archive.org/web/20210118065707/https://www.racing-reference.info/showblog?id=3631

For awhile, there were plans to build a track with a dome around it to try to prevent a rainout. The costs were insane and the project was shut down, plus building a dome around a track would result in carbon monoxide poisoning.
