To anyone who is visiting this forum, please check in here and reply to this post.
Also, I invite everyone to share thoughts about what we might want to do as a community going forward, now that we know that RR's comments are coming to an end.
I have been going over some ideas in my mind, such as the possibility of setting up a forum at a new domain name and creating a structure so that people can still comment, at least on specific races from the past. Please share any thoughts and ideas that you have as well.

There is a Discord server, it’s got some traffic already, I’m already on there but this forum could be an alternative if the Discord server doesn’t work out

Mile501, Your forum idea sounds good for old races. I was also thinking about ways that we could restore the older comments as well, unfortunately I’m not well versed in forums and computers, so I’ve drawn a blank, but I hope that there is a way.

I am actually working on archiving all the RR comments as we speak. (Well, at least all the Cup race comments, for now. It's a quick but tedious process.) Publishing those archived comments so that anyone can view them will be pretty easy, but I'm not sure how to make it so people can add new comments to what's already there.

I agree with Mile that the discord is really only suitable for race-day comments. The lack of any kind of structure makes it impossible to have a discussion on a specific past race, or track, or driver, which is easy on a board like this.
I hope you try to recover the comments on all the races. While Cup events are fairly well documented, much of what's in the comments for other series would be very hard to find in other places. I note that Ultimate Racing History has much of the race information that R-R had (indeed, that's where much of it came from), so the comments is the truly unique content that should be saved.

I agree; it's just a tedious process, so I'm starting with Cup. Perhaps I can enlist some other volunteers to help with other series.

I will push back on this in the sense that it's not quite as structureless as you're implying, or at least it doesn't have to be. The server that I created currently only has one channel for discussion, but that's only temporary until I get a sense of what people want -- one of my goals would be to add a channel specifically for old race discussions. Not discouraging you from doing your own thing, just something to keep in mind.

Carllong - Discord is structureless in that it's real-time discussion. It doesn't lend itself to a thread for every driver, or every historical race, which is something a more rigidly structured board could. Each has it's place, and probably one of the reasons NASCAR killed comments in R-R is the real-time race discussion that went on (that, and of course NASCAR hates their fans).

Hey Mile - is there a "show recent posts" feature on this board? I've looked, and not seeing it (but perhaps I'm just blind).

Yes, possum, there is! It's down near the bottom of the forum home page, so it's not in the most obvious place. It's under "Forum Information & Statistics".

Hi all
As a longtime poster on RR (on basically any series other than NASCAR!) I'm wondering if there's a chance of reaching out to one of these results websites (Ultimate Racing History, The Third Turn, etc) and seeing what traction there would be for a comments section there. RR's comments was what made the site unique and frankly I don't think there is any reason to go there without them. Nice to hear you're archiving the old posts, it just shows the calibre of the community that has been mercilessly purged overnight by NASCAR...

I beleive URH is a one-man show, and I doubt he'd be interested in the complexity (or cost) of a comments section. The Third Turn might be a better prospect - I think it's Wiki based, and most Wiki software supports a "talk" page, which would serve the same purpose as R-R's comments section (if you somehow blocked out the real-time race discussion).

I have created www.racinghistory.info to host the comment archive and other racing history links/information. Please spread the word!
