Well, color me unimpressed. I wasn't able to watch the first part of the race, so I missed "the most dangerous thing I've ever done in a race car" (per Kevin Harvick), but I watched from after the first red flag ended, and, even allowing for the rain, there just wasn't much racing going on. The track would be vastly improved by removing the pavement outside the corners, or adding curbs which actually punished drivers for going over them (like the front stretch chicane at Daytona); if there's no penalty for driving off-course you might just as well paint stripes in the parking lot and let them race there. It'd be fine by me if NASCAR never went back to COTA.
Best race of the day was AMA Superbikes from VIR. 5 riders tightly contesting 3rd - one eventually dropped back, and one ran off into the grass, but the other 3 swapped the position all the way to the checkers, and the broadcast crew intelligently stayed with that action all race long. We can only wish NASCAR had that sort of competition (and TV coverage).
