Well, big farce here: race starts in "mist", a couple of laps later it's raining and Kyle Busch (leader) and Martin Truex back it into the wall in turn 1. They interviewed Kyle, who said it'd been raining for over a lap, and asked him if communication with NASCAR could be improve; he bit his tongue and didn't answer, but you could tell he was thinking "communication isn't the problem, listening is". They also interviewed NASCAR VP Steve O'Donnell, who said NASCAR's process is, if it appears to perhaps be raining, they ask the flagstand, and then they ask the pace car (parked in turn 1), and then they decide what to do...which obviously is a bit of a long-winded process (O'Donnell also said there's no formal communications channel between the teams and NASCAR, they just sometimes listen to the spotters).
Much cluelessness from the NBC team, incidently - you could clearly see rain on the cameras and in-cars for a couple of laps before the wreck, but somehow it was a complete surprise to the broadcast team.
Old-timers will recall an All-Star race at Charlotte many years ago that started the same way, and Jeff Gordon pileing into the wall.
