Hurricane Michael is now a buzzsaw heading to northwest Florida. Gonna be stronger than Irma when it came ashore, possibly as strong as Charley, which caused tornado-like wind damage. My side of Florida dodged a bullet.

I thought that after the absolute chaos of last season, we would have a tame year. And for the most part it has, but dang, Florence and Michael have pounded us.

Wow it is still classified as a 4 despite making landfall already.
"As Michael made landfall at 2 pm EDT October 10, 2018 near Mexico Beach, FL with top sustained winds of 155 mph and a central pressure of 919 mb, makes the most intense landfalling mainland U.S. hurricane since Camille of 1969, which had a 900 mb pressure, and the strongest by wind speed since Andrew of 1992, which had 165 mph winds."

Michael has maintained major hurricane status into southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia.

This is absolutely bad news for where I live because I am-you guessed it-directly in the path of this thing. The one saving grace is that it's moving fast and will be out of here quick. The bad news is that it's maintaining most of its' strength AND the eye is predicted to pass within 50 miles of where I live.
I have a feeling this one is going to be a LOT worse than Florence. This could be very much like Hurricane Matthew-extended for days on end power outages. I'm hoping NOT but it does not look very good. Power outages are EXTREMELY likely in my area.

I think you'll be fine because its fast moving and by the time it reaches SC it won't even be a hurricane. But be on the lookout.

Tornado warning! One is on the ground a few counties over... Had a nasty squall head over me yesterday, the skies turned black out of nowhere, and was gone fairly quickly. Always keep your guard up when a storm is nearby. I still cringe for nightstorms like Georgia and SC just experienced. Only 2 in the US are dead right now, thoughts to those who were affected, hoping the death toll doesn't rise. Unfortunately, many people die after the storm is over; generator related carbon monoxide poisoning, electrocution, traffic accidents for those exploring too soon, insect-borne diseases, sensitive individuals getting overheated from lack of air conditioning.

Most of the worst of the storm has passed us by for now. Somehow the power is still intact here although it *has* tried to go out a few times. It has been a LOT gustier than it was with Florence-the wind sounded absolutely awful throughout the early morning. Woke me up several times!
No tornadoes have popped up near me as far as I know. We're not quite out of the woods yet. Still getting heavy rain from this sucker and some more bad winds should be blowing through soon as the last bands make their way through the area. But hopefully the worst is behind us...

Michael has officially passed us by now. Heavy gusts and rain throughout the morning and early afternoon hours gave way to a sunny late afternoon. Lots of trees down in other parts around my area, but the power held up here. Lot of branches and leaves strewn all about, though.
My thoughts are with the people who live on the Florida Panhandle where this monster came ashore. If you've seen the news/Weather Channel coverage of the storm you've no doubt seen that places like Mexico Beach have been nearly totally obliterated by the storm. Very few houses left standing, streets wrecked and flooded, debris and roofs of houses strewn all over the place. My folks said when they were showing the images of the damage of Mexico Beach it reminded them very much of the damage Andrew left behind. Places like that could take decades to recover.
