I guess the TBA 9 driver will have to have sponsorship? As in the driver has to bring money.

This is just awful. For Ross, for Chip, for the fans, for the series. Ross would've made it so much more fun to watch next year. Hopefully he can get one of the remaining JD Motorsports rides, or a part-time gig with JRM (#9), RCR (#21) or JGR (#18). This is just representative of everything that's wrong with NASCAR right now.

The only possible good I can see in this situation right now is for the teams on the cusp of the playoffs and the teams on the cusp of making the field. Could give 1 underfunded team a shot at a championship and 1 underfunded team the chance to stay in business.

Not to minimize how this affects all their employees, but I really feel for Ross here. He finally gets the chance of a lifetime, then this happens. At least people got to see his talent last year, and hopefully he'll land a good ride somewhere, even if it's not until next season.

I think he'll do a lot better than that. Before his suspension, Spencer Gallagher ranked 7th in Xfinity points with a win and a lot of finishes between 5th and 11th. Chase Elliott and others who filled in also performed very well, although they failed to win. I would expect Nemechek to earn at least one or two wins and definitely make the playoffs. Competition for the championship four will be tough, though, with drivers like Bell, Allgaier, Custer, and Chastain to compete against. Yes, I suppose you're right. But there will be plenty of competition. Look at all the full-time teams next year: #00 Cole Custer #1 Noah Gragson #2 TBA / Matt Tifft? #5 Michael Annett #7 Justin Allgaier #9 TBA #19 TBA / Brandon Jones? #20 Christopher Bell #21 Tyler Reddick #22 Austin Cindric #42 Ross Chastain #98 Chase Briscoe That right there is 12 teams, without Nemechek, who should compete for a playoff berth. It doesn't include the Kaulig #11 (which has made the playoffs the last 3 years), or a 2nd car for Kaulig, which is rumored. It doesn't include a Roush car, as their plans are up in the air. And it doesn't account for expansion of any existing team (or switching a multi-driver car to a single-driver car.) I don't believe that just having a fast car next year will guarantee you a playoff spot as it has in years past. With Roush and now Ganassi not competing in Xfinity this coming season, and with RCR and JR either running fewer teams or having a team with multiple drivers, our group of likely championship contenders is really shrinking. Here is what I came up with: Virtually certain playoff drivers (9): #00 Cole Custer #1 Noah Gragson #2 Tyler Reddick #7 Justin Allgaier #19 Brandon Jones #20 Christopher Bell #22 Austin Cindric #23 John Hunter Nemechek #98 Chase Briscoe Most likely to fill the remaining 3 spots: #5 Michael Annett #11 Justin Haley #39 Ryan Sieg ...unless Ross Chastain is able to find a ride somewhere.

Here are the bigger-budget teams: #00 Custer, #1 Gragson, #2 Reddick, #5 Annett, #7 Allgaier, #11 Haley, #19 Jones, #20 Bell, #22 Cindric, #23 Nemechek & #98 Briscoe. With Chastain, that number would've been up to 12. However, it is now only 11.
Here are the announced low-budget teams so far: #4 Koch, #08 Gaulding, #39 Sieg, #40 Finchum, #78 Miller & #93 Green. Finchum & Miller will be too far off the pace to compete for a playoff spot. Green will start-and-park too much to contend. That leaves Koch, Gaulding & Sieg (and probably Jeremy Clements, too, though he hasn't officially announced plans for '19 yet) to fight it out for spot #12. Of course, this could be shaken up if one of the 11 well-funded teams (I have Annett in mind here) performs very badly and drops behind 2 of these teams. He nearly did so in 2018, when he got beaten by the #4 team and finished only 13 points ahead of the #51 team. But CGR's departure will open up a playoff spot for at least one non-well-funded team, a spot that potentially would've been out of reach without this situation happening.

So, we've lost Furniture Row from Cup, Roush & Ganassi from Xfinity and Moffitt still doesn't have a ride in Trucks. Pretty crap news all round.

Looks like Tbayne couldn't get a full-time ride. They talk about not travelling every weekend, so if he has a ride, it's part-time. Being with Tri-Star, which is a part time team this year or some other such team or part of a multi-driver team, like the 9 Xfinity, which is Zane Smith 8 races and unannounced beyond that besides being multi-driver.

Of the drivers unable to get a full-time ride, which one do you think would be most likely to be asked to sub?
