Isn't this the series that Jenson Button drives in?

It is! He is leading the points right now alongside Naoki Yamamoto with Kunimitsu and Honda. Yamamoto has been Honda's most consistent driver for years now. Button has been great for the series. SARD who won the title 2 years ago has 2 ex-F1 drivers: Heikki Kovalainen and Kamui Kobayashi.

I think it's cool (but also a little odd) when drivers like Button drive all the way across the world in a Japanese series. It reminds me of Simona de Silvestro in Supercars.

Super GT has had quite a few European guys be amongst the best of the series. Eric Comas, Tom Coronel, Ralph Firman, Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer, and Loic Duval are all great example of guys who did great in Super GT but also have a good record of success outside of Japan as well.

I didn't realize Lotterer or Duval ran there (those are the guys I know most about out of that group.) I haven't been real impressed with Lotterer in FE, but maybe Vergne was just that good.

Lotterer was a fixture in Japanese auto racing for 15 years. He ran in the top open wheel series in Japan for 15 years, and until his final season which was last year, he had finished in the Top 5 in points every year. He won the title in that series in 2011. He won 2 Super GT titles in the #36 TOM's car, the top ride at Lexus alongside Juichi Wakisaka in 2006 and 2009. You put that with his 3 victories at Le Mans with Audi, and you have a great driver.

I really like Autopolis. This and Sugo are my favourite races of the year.

The defending champs Cassidy/Hirakawa get the win! This brings them level on points with Button/Yamamoto heading into the season finale at Motegi next month!

No point of creating a new thread, but what a tense finale at Motegi! I'm so happy that Team Kunimitsu won their first title and congratulations to both Button & Yamamoto!

I was so glad to see Kunimitsu win too. That team and owner have been around so long. It was nice to see them pull it off. I've always hated TOM's, so it's always nice to see them get beat. It's also cool to see Honda win the title, considering all 5 of their cars were the Bottom 5 just 2 years ago. Even ARTA is contending again.
