With Cassill confirmed in the #00 and LaJoie's move to the #32, I now wonder even more if the #72 is the team we're going to lose next year. Both their drivers have moved on and there has been absolutely no news from the team in the offseason.

They also don't have a charter. All 36 charters are accounted for, including the 4th FRM charter, now that RWR has confirmed they have 2. That's the thing about the charter agreement - new teams may come in, but rather than contributing to the growth of the sport, they usually take the place of another, more competitive team.

We lost #78 (Furniture Row) and probably #72 (TriStar). We gained #52 (RWR) and #77 (Spire). #23 changed from BK to FRM and becomes #36.
The number of competitive teams remains basically the same, at about 30, though we lost one top-tier team (#78) and gained two potential mid-tier teams (#36 and #77).

Almost. The #97 doesn't have a charter. The #77 (Spire Motorsports) does.

Whoops--sorry about that oversight. Somehow I completely forgot about the #77. I'll go back up and correct that. I wonder who their driver will be--no obvious choices exist.

The only driver they're signed with who doesn't have a ride for next year is Garrett Smithley. I wonder if he'll be in the 77. I expected him to get the 4 Xfinity ride (would've made most sense), but since he didn't, that seems to make this more probable, too. Also, Smithley drove some races for Jay Robinson last year, who is rumored to be involved with this team.

Maybe this means Childress' streak of using the #31 isn't over yet. They've run that number in at least one race a year since 1996, and it was full-time from 1997-2018 with (primarily) Mike Skinner, Robby Gordon, Jeff Burton and Ryan Newman. Of course, if Reddick did run some Cup races, they could use another number. In the past, they've used #03, #07, #27, #29, #30, #33, #90 & #96, none of which are in use next year. Reddick is using #2 in Xfinity, and that number is already taken in Cup. I think that, if we're going to see Reddick, it would be most likely towards the end of the year at tracks he's been successful on, like Homestead or Kansas. This could set him up for a ROTY run in 2020, which would also allow RCR to expand back to 3 cars in Cup, with the potential for a 4th if Ty Dillon ever decides to come over.
